John Brodish
Senior Product Designer · Portland, Oregon
Summary
Senior product designer with a decade in UX. Since 2019 I’ve built products that keep working when the expert isn’t in the room: a clinician’s migraine protocol encoded as a 90-day mobile program, a machine-learning model’s predictions made legible and trustworthy for non-technical users, and my own design judgment encoded as an AI design system, published and set as my company’s org default. I design for calibrated trust — making complex, modeled data usable and its confidence honest. I’ve augmented my practice with AI since 2024; most recently, an agent pipeline I built feeds weekly customer evidence into my design work.

Orita Senior Product Designer
Sole designer for a machine-learning startup (email/SMS audience optimization for e-commerce brands) — product, web app, marketing site, dashboards, design system, and brand across the company’s life.
- Designed for trust in modeled output: a plain-language explainer layer for lift metrics, and the shipped lift-summary redesign built to stop customers misreading untapped revenue (live since September 2025).
- Formally assigned design driver for the Campaign Planner, Orita’s scenario-planning MVP: took a teammate’s AI-generated mockup to the shipped design in one week — a range on the headline projection rather than a single number, numeric inputs over sliders, progressive disclosure, clear affordances separating what users can edit from what the model reports, and conditional formatting showing whether each change helped. Within three months of launch the planner reached about a third of active customers.
- Encoded the company’s brand and my design judgment as an org-default Claude Design system: slide output passes all five checks in my own brand audit. When the system outperformed the bespoke slide tool I’d built along the way, I retired the tool (August 2026). Ran the training workshop where teammates built their own AI skills the same day; the co-CEO generated his own on-brand deck from it.
- Built and operate an agent pipeline that mines customer conversations into design-relevant themes weekly.
- Ran a self-directed research practice: customer interviews, a card sort, and competitive teardowns feeding dashboard and app-revamp work.

Secret Foundation Creative Director
Creative direction for a blockchain network — brand, design system, and main site. Separately coordinated a ~30-designer volunteer committee.

Juva Health Co-Founder, Product Design Leader
One of four co-founders of a startup delivering a mobile biofeedback treatment for migraine — a proven therapy with roughly 700 certified US headache specialists for 39 million people.
- Took the program our chief medical officer delivered in-person and made it work with nobody in the room: a 90-day program encoding her protocol — practice lapses trigger clinically-modeled repeats, every parameter editable by the clinicians themselves — later shipped as the 12 Week Plan, built from the files I handed over.
- Led end-to-end design: the app (shipped June 2020, public April 2021), marketing site, physical kit, program curriculum, and brand.
- Catalogued migraine symptoms as design requirements before any code existed; ran the study that overturned my own dark-mode assumption (contrast, not brightness).
- Collaborated on business and product strategy with three other co-founders; managed contract designers and specialists one at a time.
